Where is Hoang Su Phi located?
Hoang Su Phi is a district located in the west of Ha Giang province, 100km from Ha Giang city. Hoang Su Phi district is home to 12 ethnic minorities living, mainly the Nung, Dao, Hmong and La Chi people. The most outstanding feature of Hoang Su Phi is the heritage of terraced fields, concentrated in Nam Hong, Phung Village, Luoc Village, Nhung Village, Nam Khoa communes… There is Chieu Lau Thi peak 2402m high and Tay Con Linh peak. 2431m high. These are two famous trekking peaks among backpackers in Vietnam and internationally.

Which transport should you choose to travel to Hoang Su Phi in the ripe rice season?
In the ripe rice season, Hoang Su Phi is as beautiful as a picture of paradise. The rice paddies are full of seeds, all over the hills are the iridescent golden colors of endless rice fields. Wherever you go, you will be overwhelmed by the scenery everywhere. Rice stretches across the fields, in the alleys, and on the hills. So, if you have to choose a means of transportation, I recommend you to go by motorbike. You must have a motorbike to have the opportunity to see the full beauty of the golden season, if you go by car, you will miss a lot of scenery.
Hoang Su Phi is only nearly 300km away from Ha Noi. Therefore, I recommend you to rent a motorbike in Hanoi. You can rent a motorbike here.
If you can’t take a long-distance motorbike, you can take a bus. Book a bus here, then you go to Tan Quang intersection of Hoang Su Phi and rent a motorbike.
Another option, that you can also rent a self-driving car completely, however, this vehicle is not recommended because it will not go into the alleys of Hoang Su Phi and the road is really winding. The road is difficult, so motorbikes are still the number 1 choice for you.

Day 1: Hanoi – Nam Hong Village
On this day, you from Hanoi, drive a motorbike to Nam Hong, Thong Nguyen, Hoang Su Phi.

Nam Hong Thong Nguyen is a commune located in Hoang Su Phi district. Nam Hong is a village of the Red Dao ethnic group. The terraced fields here are extremely beautiful, with extremely lovely horseshoe-shaped terraced fields. Coming here, you can sleep at Hoang Su Phi Bungalow.

Day 2: Nam Hong – Luoc Village
Luoc Village is a village with a heritage of beautiful terraced fields in Hoang Su Phi. On the way to Luoc village, you will encounter many scenes of majestic terraced fields. The terraced fields are very high, standing from the road looking down will see the immense majesty. Because Luoc village is one of the famous tourist destinations that must be visited in the ripe rice season, it is recommended to rest here for one night. Day 3: Luoc Village – Chieu Lau Thi peak
Chieu Lau Thi peak is a very beautiful mountain top, here you can watch the clouds drifting. Especially in the ripe rice season, the clouds here look very beautiful. The way to Chieu Lau Thi peak is not too difficult, when you come to Homestay Chu Phu, you can rest here. Unlike other mountain peaks, you have to do a lot of trekking. Going to Chieu Lau Thi peak, you can leave your car below and walk for about 30 minutes to 1 hour according to Maps to reach the top. And really, you don’t need to hire a guide to go to Chieu Lau Thi because the way is very easy. Day 4: Chieu Lau Thi peak – Phung Village
From Chieu Lau Thi peak, you follow Maps to Phung Village – The number 1 terraced field heritage in Hoang Su Phi. Although the road is only about 45km, it will be a bit difficult because the zigzag road is difficult to go, especially this place is bordering.

Day 5: Phung Village – Bac Ha Market
Bac Ha is a highland market in Lao Cai. I do not encourage you to go back from Phung Village back to Vinh Quang town and back to Hanoi. Because it will repeat the scene. Instead, this day you can go straight from Phung Village, follow Maps through Bac Ha market. This road is best for motorbikes only, and cars are a bit difficult because of the road on the border. On the way, you also encounter gentle terraced fields, people harvest rice under the full sun of autumn.
If you come early, you can take a walk around Bac Ha. See famous landmarks here such as Hoang A Tuong Palace, night market, Bac Ha flower valley, Bac Ha temple…

What to prepare when traveling Hoang Su Phi by motorbike?
Motorbike
Surely you must have a motorbike to go when traveling to Hoang Su Phi. This is also a road that should only be taken by motorbike, but I do not recommend you to go by car because it will miss many beautiful scenes. It is best to rent a motorbike with a number to go, because there are many zigzag and steep bends that need to be flexible. The scooter is not good to travel in Hoang Su Phi. If possible, rent a large delivery vehicle to get more beautiful photos.
When renting a motorbike, you should always ask for insurance and protective gear because the road will be difficult for you. Keeping yourself safe on the roads will help you have a safe and fun trip.
To rent a motorbike in Vietnam, you need the following documents:

Advanced reservations
It is recommended to book a room in advance when traveling to Hoang Su Phi in the ripe rice season. Because this season, tourism in Hoang Su Phi is very crowded, so it will soon run out of rooms if you do not book.
Time
If you do not have much time, you can combine the itinerary down to 5 days 4 nights or 4 days 3 nights. However, I encourage you to follow the schedule I recorded to see the whole road in Hoang Su Phi, because going slow will see more beautiful scenes.
Some notes when traveling in Hoang Su Phi
– Do not go at night, because the mountain road is really dangerous. You will not encounter robberies, but the mountain road has many alleys that are easy to fall into the cliff if you go at night.
– You can combine Hoang Su Phi travel with Sapa tour at the same time if you have more time. The West of Ha Giang is really beautiful in autumn. If you’ve been to Dong Van palace before, you can skip it now. If you haven’t gone yet, you can combine to go to Hoang Su Phi and then go back. – The above schedule is still lacking to conquer Tay Con Linh peak. Tay Con Linh is a beautiful mountain peak, but the road to conquer is really difficult.
